Give
Lisa Pierpont, former editor-in-chief of Boston magazine, commissioned me to write a holiday song. I felt honored, and it also felt like a big assignment. We had five days to write, mix and master the song and shoot the music video. I called on composer and producer Simone Scazzocchio to collaborate. We struggled to develop musical ideas for the first two days. On the third day, we took a step back from the project and talked about our life, music, and love.
More to the Story
While sharing our musical influences, Simone pulled out a Bodhrán, an Irish-framed drum. Immediately, I felt drawn to the instrument and Simone's playing. As the melodic rhythm of the drum filled the room, I began to make a percussive breathing pattern.
With the heartbeat of the drum and the breath, "GIVE" was born.
