Little Warrior

The Little Warrior mixtape, a collection of female empowerment anthems, ushered in a powerful season of growth professionally.

Little Warrior was a nickname given to me by Yael DrumAddict. I met her when looking for a female rock drummer on Craigslist. We exchanged emails about rock music and the music business. Being a few years older than me, Yael always shared great advice and guidance. In the last line of each email she sent me, she would say, "Be strong, little warrior."

More to the Story

One day, it hit me. I am a Little Warrior. And I would have to be if I wanted to “make it” as a recording artist in the music industry. From then on, the moniker inspired my song lyrics, music videos, album artwork, and even my artistic persona, including my wardrobe, hair, and makeup. My warrior emerged fierce, unapologetic, and outspoken. I was ready to be heard!

The Little Warrior mixtape, a collection of female empowerment anthems, ushered in a powerful season of growth professionally. As I gained critical success in Boston, I struggled with career anxieties and the bias of being a brown-skinned black woman in the industry. My warrior became feisty, impatient, and reactive.

After years of swimming upstream, I knew I had to slow down. My mental health depended on it. Yoga, meditation, and diet helped me become a wiser, more grounded, and more evolved warrior. I still feel deeply moved by this project's music, message, and attitude. It captures the raw, unfiltered hustle of trying to make it in the wild wilderness of the music industry.

“She lit up the room with a striking combination of raw energy and polished musicianship”

“Leading her band as they fearlessly bounded through the myriad of hip-hop, rock, and funk influences that colored her mixtape ‘Little Warrior.’ Yet her musical persona strikes a different demeanor; beneath the warrior, a more sensitive soul exists.”
